Often touted as the showcase event where tech giants show off their latest and greatest creations this year Consumer Electronic Show (CES) held in Las Vegas, NV attracted a record 140,000 people. Products encompassing everyone’s kitchen, wall and hands are displayed full fledge at the 3-day event. The 2009 CES was known, as the year of Palm OS and the E-reader among tech circles and with the success of the iPad and continued implementation of Social Media in everyday products in 2010 many looked ahead to the innovations the 2011 show would bring.

With over 80 new products introduced tablets were the main focus of this years show. Companies such as Samsung, Motorola, Blackberry and LG eagerly showcased their creations hoping to win over fans of Apples industry leading iPad. Advancements with Google’s Android OS have allowed manufacturers to take advantage of new features hinting towards a potential boost in sales. Tablets have begun to replace netbooks and are becoming the norm in sales pitches, presentations and kiosks. The Apple iPad has become a popular tool in the healthcare industry with many doctors trading in traditional clipboards for the visual and cost effective appeal of the iPad. Tablets are also becoming widely popular in the classroom setting as well. Many school organizations and Universities have begun to hand out iPads to students in order to cut back on paper costs. With Apple projected to sell 28 million tablets in 2011 new players in the market will surely help tablets become a household technology.

Closely followed by tablets the television industry made a splash at CES with manufacturers introducing new models with innovative technological integrations. 3-D televisions continued their buzz from 2010 at CES with new products introduced from Sony, Samsung and LG that allow for cheaper products with higher quality. 3-D continued to shine as new cameras and camcorders from Sony implemented the new technology.  Television also continued its trend into merging with Internet based technologies as more manufacturers announced integration with SmartTV. SmartTV will allow for users to connect their smartphones, televisions and computers all within one easy network.

Not to be overlooked by any means at this years CES was the ever-expanding smartphone industry. Although Apple Inc. was absent they still made quiet a bit of buzz at CES by lowering the price of their popular iPhone 3GS to $49. Nipping at Apples prowess in the industry Google’s Android introduced a slew of new 4G smartphones from multiple manufacturers. Smartphone have allowed users to connect with each other like never before and have allowed for the transfer of information to become instant. New apps allow for instant donations from phones, accessing social media feeds quicker and even turning on cars.

CES 2011 brought many exciting new technologies and products into the consumer eye. These technologies will have an effect on various industries in their own unique way and will set the table for more advancement in 2012, stay tuned!
