How do you creat great content that is alluring to the general public and your potential clients? The simple answer would be keyword rich content and industry news. Oh yes, keyword rich writing. We all love it.
There is something deeper that tends to push one blog past the other in terms of the public attention deficit disorder: Authenticity.
Authenticity should be one of the driving focusing of your blog, your use of social networking tools, and your business. We are now in a customer centric world where people want to deal with… you guessed it… people.
Staying authentic with your content means you do not sound like the back of a brochure. It means you do not sound like the news anchor on the Fox Business Channel droning away about the pitfalls of capitalism.
It means..What does it mean?
Telling stories.
Creating visual memories of how you have helped clients. Telling the story of starting the business and being honest about the mistakes you made “growing up.” It means giving your personal opinion on activities happening in the market.
I think I speak for everyone when I say… we want to hear from YOU not your industry.

Running a blog myself, I tackle this issue everytime I sit in front of the keyboard. I get an underlying message from you post that the whole idea of authenticity is easier said than done. Authenticity in the purest sense of the word to bloggers means to be yourself. Sometimes we can get caught up in the reccomendations from the "successful" and "popular" blogs we read everday and this can detour us from the main reason we started blogging: To express ourselves and tell our own stories in our own way.
You obviously did well with this one to make me open up at 9 am!

The true value of any form of content creation or marketing is when you (the writer) tell a story. People want to know about other people. We could care less about the details of a product… we just want to know how it helps… how it cures our pain. Great comment Doc! Keep them coming! How do you write with authenticity?

That's all PR and marketing is when you boil it down. Being great story tellers and reaping said rewards from that prowess.

Love it. This is such a great post and so spot on. I read only handful of posts on Brazen every week, but yours caught my attention. I just subscribed to your feed :).

Thanks Srinivas!

I'm a sales trainer, and authenticity is an important element in face-to-face selling, too. It's difficult for salespeople to engage the prospect if the salesperson isn't authentically centered. Thanks for your post.

The sales trainer that can help an individual capture the truest sense of authenticity will fuel growth exponentially for a company. If you are not authentic and come across as straight selling… you will lose in the long run.
