In social media, thousands of people are always sharing news, events, entertainment, and opinions through Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and more. But with all of this noise in social media, how can your one voice be heard?

Is it better to shout, scream, and yell? Well, let’s take a look about how effective that is in real life. Imagine you are in a fight with your significant other. If you yell, it probably doesn’t solve the problem and leaves the other person still angry with you. The same situation applies to parents and their children. If the child screams and yells, they are just going to be in an even larger amount of trouble.

If yelling is not effective than what is? Think about how you speak to your family, friends, and co-workers. More than likely you engage each other in conversation and share items that are of interest to you and the people you are speaking with. Having a great conversation can make someone’s day. I am always happy after meeting up with my close friends and seeing what is going on in their lives and what they are looking forward to doing. Transforming these great conversations into the social media realm is easy.

In social media you can share literally anything that you want with the online community; however, if you start just trying to sell your product or service to your audience, they are going to get bored and tired of hearing you yell and scream the same information. Eventually, they will no longer be a part of your audience, and then, you will no longer have anyone to scream at. So much for having all of those friends, followers, and connections.

To combat this problem and make the most out of your network, you must create an engaging conversation with your network. This conversation is very similar to the conversations that you have with people everyday; only this one is much shorter. Think about topics that would be of interest to you and your community and share that information. For example, if you just had the most amazing food at a local restaurant, take a photo and post it onto Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter tagging the restaurant. Others will want to know about your experience as will the restaurant.

Conversations that happen on social media allow people from all over the world to converse who may never actually see each other in real life. These conversations are meaningful and instantaneous, clear and concise. For example, I can tweet one of my followers in France, and he will respond with his thoughts on the topic. I don’t have to worry about international calling rates; I receive a response quickly; and I can easily connect with other people who may have an input on the topic. Social media may open many doors in your future if you continue to use them properly by creating thoughtful conversation
