As many of you know, especially my Twitter followers who were inundated with hundreds of tweets, I attended the ExactTarget User Conference in Indianapolis this week. The entire theme of the conference was based around the power of one. And it was excellent.

The power of one voice.

The power of one song.

The power of one idea.

The power of one hour.

The power of one technology.

And yes, only naming a few.

It is easy to express praise for a conference that places some of the best minds in the world in one building. It is easy to support a local company who is helping put the city of Indianapolis at the center of the digital marketing world.  It is much harder to explain the emotionally charged ideas stuffed in my head after over 48 hours of learning and development.

I wanted to talk about one idea from Jane Quigley courtesy of C.C. Chapman (during his presentation with Ann Handley). The idea is based around the sharing of moments in the social sphere. The comment was so powerful and yet… so simple to understand. We (as a content community) are shifting to the sharing of moments and individual thoughts than longer type content.

While I still write blog posts, articles, and white papers… the majority of my social content is in the form of pictures, tweets, and check-ins. I am sharing the moments and experiences throughout my day… throughout my life. What does that mean to the world of marketing and branding?

Everything!

We (marketers) yell from the heavens about building an emotional repor with current and potential customers. We believe that we are doing the industry a service with creative and fun advertising. But what are we doing to help capture the individual moments or our current and potential customers?

Your customers are creating a landscape of influence around things they love. Joe might only have 500 friends on Facebook but he can influence 45% of them. They are influential because they share the moments that might not be related at all to your brand… but are still important. Customers want to know that you care… about everything.

The power of one moment has the potential to revolutionize the world of marketing and communications.

Let’s all try to remember the power of one idea and one moment. It will completely change your life.

Oh yah… and go to Connections 2012.
