Josh and Justin you are completely right! It is unbelievable the amount of time people spend on Facebook and Myspace.

It is hard to imagine spending more than an hour online and not bringing anything away from it.

Yea true… it can only get better as more people are involved and discover it… and yes, Facebook and blogging are totally different.

I know so many people who will spend hours and hours on Myspace and Facebook… but no other ‘social media’ interests beyond that. Facebook doesn’t require any kind of thought beyond commenting on someone’s latest photos.

I second Josh…

I told my cousin that I blog and she laughed at me. She had to do it for a class project and hated it.

I think it takes a particular type of person as well. Blogging isn’t for everyone. I think Facebook creates an easy portal for everyone to connect without a lot of thought. A lot of the millennial generation (which I’m a part of) is focused lazy right now. We’re 20-somethings…we can do anything we want. And right now…blogging/twitter etc isn’t high on the priority list.

Just as we always talk about niche social communities online…blogging is in and of itself a niche community. And because of this niche…I don’t think we’ll see a lack of ‘true’ blogging…honestly I see it becoming more authentic as people who are currently doing it do it more.

It’s a good point, but like Larraine mentioned above… I wouldn’t say this is a ‘generational’ gap… it’s just an age group gap. People around my age 18-25 have other things more important in their life like socializing, studying, partying, etc etc

I blog… but I’m not normal =P

Here is a question to consider – you say most of the bloggers you follow are over 30.. but when did they start blogging? Were they in their 20′s

Good blogging requires a consistent effort. Is it that younger folks don’t blog now because of time, distractions, shorter attention span ( that may or may not improve with age) or is it that they truly never will?
