I ran across this post looking for some different statistics on Facebook for an upcoming presentation. That is an incredible amount of time people spend on Facebook. Online social marketing is for sure a new opportunity for businesses wanting to expand their marketing. Great post and great stats! Thanks

I completely agree Facebook is a great opportunity for both personal and professional communication. I find the hours surprisingly low though considering how many users they have (The article said 70Million in the US) that rounds out to 3.5 hours per user per month. I wonder what the "time on site" distribution is.

The more time I spend on Facebook and the more people I am beginning to connect with from the business world on Facebook...the more I am really starting to see this play out. Over the past few months I have had clients, potential clients, and networking partners send me Facebook messages instead of calling or emailing. It really is starting to become THE online communication platform of choice for even the business world. I have always said the best part for me about Facebook is seeing it come from just college students to where it is today...truly transforming the way we communicate.

What is a few million or so hours among friends?

This is the exact reason that when it came time to choose between a stand alone application or a Facebook application, we chose to do a Facebook app first!

I will be happy with just a few hundred thousand of those hours...
